Application Process for Home ownership

STEP 1:

Orientation

Potential applicants are REQUIRED to attend one orientation.

Learn about process and receive application.

Return completed application with required information to Habitat.

STEP 2:

Habitat calculates income and pulls credit report.

If income and credit meets requirements, applicant is invited to an interview.

STEP 3:

Interview conducted at the Habitat office on a Saturday morning (Meeting location and time may vary).

STEP 4:

Application gets processed.

Background check, employment history and rental history is verified.

Application is passed to Family Selection Committee.

STEP 5:

Family Selection Committee Home Visit and Decision is made.

Two members of the Selection Committee will contact you. They will set up a time to visit your home and interview your family.

After the visit, the committee members will report at the next Board of Directors meeting. The report will be based on your need for housing, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.

If approved, applicant will receive approval letter and be required to attend Family Participation Seminar.

If denied applicant will receive a letter stating the reason for denial.

STEP 6:

If approved... Attend Family Participation Seminar and sign Agreement.

Begin working sweat equity, Homeowner-in-Process (HIP) classes, and other activities.

Complete 75 hours and clear all "Bad Credit" before lot selection.

Construction on your house should begin after you have completed at least 125 hours.

You must put in at least 100 hours of work on your own house during construction.

The Application Process takes 3 to 4 months. The sweat equity requirements take 8-10 months. From the date of orientation to the time of house closing, it generally takes a little over one year. No guarantees of time. Completion time rest solely on number and energy of volunteers. If applicants do not meet Habitat for Humanity ‘s criteria and are not accepted into the program, they will receive a letter with a description of the reason. If these issues can be resolved we ask that the applicants do what ever is necessary and reapply for Habitat.
